Production of Tobacco

The production of tobacco is something that has taken place almost since the discoveries made of the New World by Walter Raleigh.
Firstly, tobacco is grown, this is usually done in large outdoor fields. Tobacco leaves are grown to be big and green. When ready for picking, the leaves are then harvested en masse.
These leaves are then taken to be cured. The curing process allows for the slow oxidation and degradation of carotenoids in the tobacco leaves.
