How To Cut a Cigar

The idea of cutting is to open the closed end (cap) of the cigar. Cigars have closed ends to preserve the tobacco inside and to stop the wrapper unravelling. The process of cutting a cigar is fairly straight forward; the cigar is placed in the cutter and then the cutting blade is depressed, cutting the end of the cigar off.
This process, however, is not easy and requires a little skill.
If you cut off too much the end of the cigar may fray, cut off too little and you'll find it hard to draw. Every cigar has a different sized cap, therefore there is no recommended amount to cut off. The idea is to leave a small amount of the cap so that the cigar can stay bound. (See Diagram for a rough recommendation)
The cut should be made in one swift and clean movement to ensure a full and clean cut.
It is also essential that you use the correct cutter. There are a wide range of cutters available and it is recommended that you us one of the better quality types. The cutter must also be sharp as blunt cutters often cause fraying and draw problems.
